Valerie Shwalb

Hi! My name is Valerie Shwalb and I am a senior at Indian Hills High School in Oakland, NJ. My biggest passion is theatre and the performing arts, as well as participating in my local Teen Leaders Club. I also love spending time with my friends, traveling, and attending concerts and Broadway shows.

Three years ago, I joined the teen leaders club at my local YMCA. In this club, I attend meetings, community service events, and trips. I have become a better person through this club and I have made incredible friends along the way. Some day soon, I hope to become a staff member in this program.

I am a performer and have participated in school productions and at other local theaters since I was very young. From these many years of singing, acting, and dancing on the stage, I feel a strong passion towards theatre and hope to go onto a career in the performing arts.

I have been taking dance classes since I was three years old, and I have loved it ever since. I take classes in many forms of dance including jazz, musical theatre, modern, ballet, and my favorite, tap. Dance helps me to stay in shape and is also one of my greatest passions and interests.

I have been participating in Relay for Life for four years and have been on the Event Leadership Team (ELT) for two years. With the ELT, I am able to help plan and run my community's annual Relay for Life event. I participate in Relay for Life to celebrate my mother, who is a breast cancer survivor.

As a junior in high school, I was selected for my school's Teens Need Teens: Senior Core Group. In this group, I have the opportunity to interact, collaborate, and build relationships within my school community.

I love kids, and I have been babysitting for about five years. I babysit kids from the ages of 1-10 years old.
