National Honors Society
I was inducted into NHS my junior year, and was elected as the President my senior year. I have organized and participated in many volunteer projects such as food drives, blood drives, and read alouds to children! I have volunteered over 100 hours of community service total!
Cross Country
My Sophomore year I decided to organize a joined cross country team with a nearby school! Since its start (3yr), I have been captain for the team and provided rides for students to practice each day and hosted team dinners! This is my favorite sport and I hope to continue to run distance in college!
Hiking & Nature
A big passion of mine is environmental science and hiking! I love to learn about and explore the outdoors, and since I have been fortunate to grow up in Maine, I have had an overabundance of opportunities to do so! I love the serenity of nature. I'm currently taking AP Environmental science online!
Indoor Track
Indoor track is also another sport that I felt my school would benefit from having! Again, I helped to organize a team with a nearby school and provided an opportunity for other students to get involved in sports and meet new people! I love that I am able to run throughout the harsh Maine winter!
Civil Rights Team
Outdoor Track
Outdoor track is where I found myself in high school. I learned that I am passionate about fitness! Running allows me to release negative energy and stress, gain satisfaction from seeing improvements within myself, become involved with a larger group of students around school, and try new things!
District Wellness Committee
I was selected as the student body representative on the District's Wellness Committee alongside teachers and administrators. My greatest contribution has been organizing and leading a 5k fundraiser for a scholarship for senior students, and creating a composting program for our high school!
Trio Upward Bound
This program, a 12-week residential college prep. program at Bowdoin College, has provided me with countless opportunities whether it be learning about the college experience, taking classes, touring colleges, meeting new people and even the opportunity to learn new instruments (violin and harp!)
Band Board
I have been elected as the Band Board Vice President for the last two years, and as the historian for the last four! My role is to run the band board meetings, take attendance for the band each class (120 students) and conduct the band when the teacher is working with students personally!
Dirigo Girls State
At Girls State, I met other like-minded girls who were interested in making ourselves heard, educating ourselves, and getting involved in our government. Throughout the week that we spent at Husson University, we listened to speeches from political figures, ran a mock government and produced laws!
Animals
Growing up, my favorite thing to do was visit a nearby farm and see the animals. I have always felt a strong connection with them, and love having them in my presence. I have three cats, a dog and a guinea pig, who all came from a nearby rescue animal shelter! My favorite animal is a buffalo!
Yearbook
I have been the editor of the Yearbook for the past two years! I am passionate about creating a book that represents the entire student body and captures what our school year has really been about! I take pictures, create templates for pages and conduct interviews with students and staff members!
Art
Art has always been something that I have been drawn to (catch my pun?)! I love all mediums, but highly prefer to use charcoal! I have not taken any art classes in high school due to academic classes taking priority, so I am hoping that I will be able to explore my artistic ability in college!
Concert Band
Concert Band is taken as a class at Gardiner High School. We perform throughout the year at concerts, community performances, and during out-of-state festivals and trips. Every four years we go to Washington D.C., and every two years we go to Massachusetts. I am the Vice President of this group!
Jazz Band
During my sophomore year of high school, I decided that I wanted to learn how to play a new instrument. I joined the Jazz Band, and picked up a Tenor Saxophone. After just a year of playing, I became first chair, and lead the band in our performances in Washington D.C.!
All New England Honors Band Festival
The All New England Honors Band Festival is a two day event at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire. Students are chosen to participate in this festival based on leadership, involvement, instrumental talent and a recommendation from a music instructor! I have been chosen two years in a row!
Student Council
Student Council meets every Wednesday before school. We organize school-wide events such as dances, spirit week, and fundraising events! We make posters and decorations, come up with ideas, and spread the word about events! I love that student council gives us a chance to be proud of our school!
