Samantha Berlin

I am one of 4 children, 2 dogs, and a hamster. I have an absolute passion for writing, whether it be research projects, creative writing, or blogging. I also love to spend time traveling with my family and partaking in various cultures including food, language, religion, and activities.

Leaders Club has definitely played a major part in my high school career. I have made my best friends through this club and have learned to value service through a mandatory 100 hours annually, my education, and my faith.

As Vice President, I work with the President and Secretary to lead class meetings on a weekly basis and create Senior Days. Senior Days are spirit days for the senior class and are really fun ways for us to express ourselves.

Orchesis Dance Theater is the dance company at Saint Mary's. Orchesis Dance Theater holds two concerts, one in the Spring and one in the Winter. As Vice President, I work with the other officers to present at meetings, lead the girls, and help organize concerts.

I started doing modern and ballet my freshman year and fell in love. I went from one class a week to as many as 7 in a span of 5 days. Dance is one of the ways I like to express myself and I love having the ability to share my creativity with the girls in class and in concerts.

Girls Helping Girls is a peer help group which works to make all of the girls at my school feel safe. As a facilitator, I work to lead information sessions to educate girls on how to deal with their emotions, self confidence, body image, and even small things like dates for dances and grades.

The JDRF Walk To Cure is an extraordinary charity that is attempting to eradicate Type 1 diabetes. My dad is an endrochronoglist, and my best friend when I was growing up had type 1 diabetes. I have always been surrounded by diabetes and I thought that it would be amazing to help run the walk.

I have been writing stories since I was tall enough to reach the desktop in my office. I started with short stories, created a 30 page draft for a story, and even took a creative writing class at school.

I have always liked to write and keep things to myself, but last year a couple friends told me that I should create an outlet to put all of my work. That is where the birth of my blog came about. I write about music, which is my niche, and I absolutely love it. www.walcottt.wordpress.com
