My Story

Hello! My name is Alejandra Vargas, I am 18 years old born in Managua, Nicaragua. I am a very enthusiastic, outgoing, ambitious person! I am a senior student at Lincoln International Academy, graduating high school with a plan to discover that my thirst for curiosity has not been quenched. Welcome!

Community Service and Hobby: APROQUEN/ Dance

As President of APROQUEN, an organization that helps kids who suffer from severe degree burns and their families, I was able to organize different activities to raise funds, including dancing at the Ruben Dario national theatre. I also won a video contest, earning $500 for APROQUEN!

Community Service: Operation Smile

As a volunteer for Operation Smile, I was able to raise funds for children with cleft lip and palate, and serve as interpreter for medical brigades. I participated in Latinoamerica En Accion, where I had the opportunity to attend leadership conferences in support of Operation Smile!

Community Service: Amigos de Niños con Diabetes

As President of Amigos de Niños con Diabetes, I organized fun recreational activities for children with diabetes, such as fashion shows to raise funds for this noble cause.

Community Service: TECHO

Through my participation in TECHO, I was able to build one house for an underprivileged family. I enjoyed every minute of this activity since it allowed me to make a difference in the lives of others. Each year, I also participate in fundraising activities by collecting money around the city!

Community Service: Young Women Leaders Program

Co-founded along with University of Virginia students a Young Women Leadership Program that mentors 5th grade girls from an impoverished background, helping them stay in school and build self-confidence.

Leadership: HACIA Democracy

I had the opportunity to participate in Harvard Association Cultivating Inter-American democracy and travel to Panama. HACIA allowed me to participate in debates on current political issues!
